Japanese Meiji period woodblock print by Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) from the series "Pride of Tokyo - Famous Things" featuring famous places, products, and people of Tokyo. The top section features preserved foods, a kimono fabric sample is at the lower left, and a beauty reading a newspaper within a bamboo frame is at the lower right. The title cartouche is at the upper right, the artist's signature is to the left of the beauty, and information on the publisher Kukuda Kumajiro and the date of Meiji 29" (1896) is within the lower left margin. Standard vertical oban print measuring 14 5/8"V x 10"H (image: 13 1/2"V x 9"H). Very nice color and impression quality. Deluxe edition with extensive gauffrage accents to the background behind the beauty and lacquer highlights to her robe. This print has never been framed and is not backed. There is one small soiled spot in the background to the left of the fan and minor soiling around the edges.
