Japanese Meiji Imari Porcelain 6" Dia Deep Bowl Dragon
Japanese Meiji period Imari porcelain 6” diameter x 2 ¾”H deep bowl. The center of the bowl holds a circular shochikubai pattern in underglaze blue depicting the “three friends” (pine, prunus and bamboo). The exterior is decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamel with gilt highlights and features six alternating bird and flower cartouches set against a rust-red and gilt geometric patterned background. A ¾” wide band at the rim holds a Chinese-style pattern of three dragons chasing flaming pearls. The base is marked with “fuki choshun” (riches, honor, and everlasting spring). Late 19th century. Very good overall condition with some rubbing of the gilt on the rim.
