| Japanese woodblock print by Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) titled "A Poem about a Broken Bucket" from the series "One Hundred Aspects of the Moon" dated 1889. The image depicts the 18th century poetess Chiyo illustrating one of her most notable poems. The bottom of the filled bucket has fallen out leaving no home for the reflected moon in the water. A fruit-laden persimmon tree among pampass grass is in the background. Lady Chiyo wears an elaborate 18th century kimono, when textile production reached a high level of refinement. The paper measures about 14 1/2"V x 9 3/4"H (image: 12 7/8"V x 8 7/8"H). Exellent impression and condition with very fresh color and embossed highlights in the title cartouche. The print has full margins and is not backed, toned, or taped. A description and full page color illustration of this image (print 74) can be found in "Yoshitoshi's One Hundred Aspects of the Moon" by John Stevenson. | |||||||||||
