Chinese Hand-knotted Wool Minority Prayer Rug Xinjiang
Old Chinese hand-knotted wool prayer rug woven with two opposing vases of flowers at the center surrounded by a geometric band with four Buddhist swastica symbols at the corners. Estimated to date from the early 20th century. Measures about 51" long (excluding fringe) by 26" wide. Very good overall condition. One side is slightly irregular at the corner where the rug edge has been folded under (see enlargement 5). This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s. The tag indicates it was purchased in Xinjiang.
