Large 8"H Chinese Qing Elm Wood Jumu Scroll Pot Bitong
Very large cylindrical form jumu (elm wood) scroll pot. This piece is possibly a large brushpot (bitong), but the absence of a plug in the base indicates its function was more likely to hold scrolls. Measures 7 3/4"H x 6 7/8 diameter. Appears to date from the late Qing to possibly early Republic period. Very good overall condition with typical wear and minor flaws. There are two short scratches in the wood on one side (see enlargement 3) and there is evidence of tiny old pinhead-sized bug holes in the bottom (see enlargement 8). From the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
