A finely engraved and inscribed ivory arm rest (bige)

A very finely engraved and inscribed ivory arm rest (bige). On the upper part, a long text engraved in miniature characters; it is taken from the book of ”Famous Women's Biographies” (Lie Nu Zhuan), a Eastern Han Dinasty book about women of virtue. It tells the life of Pang Degong and his wife which were living a happy life in the wild nature in the mountains collecting medicinal plants and herbs. The lower part is engraved with an idyllic mountain and river scene: Pang Degong is sitting by the river side with a basket full of medicinal plants, his wife coming down the path with plants in her hands; deers are resting close by. H. 15,5 cm x 7,5 cm. Late Qing to early Republican Period

Unusual tea bowl by artist Morino Hiroaki Taimei. 1990

A beautifull tea bowl (chawan) of porcelain decorated with an unusual, crystalline, golden glaze w. small specks of Prussian blue. Made by the important, modern pottery artist Morino Hiroaki Taimei(b. 1934), known for his abstractly decorated and unique pieces. Signed at the bottom. The bowl comes w. a fully signed kiri-box. Heisei, c. 1990. H 7.5 cm, D 11.5 cm.

Unique silver vase in Chinese style. Barnard & Sons

A unique silver vase in Chinese style, decorated with butterflies, prunus branch and various flowers, including chrysanthemum, lilies, etc. in high relief. This piece which was made by Walter & John Barnard, of the famous London family of silversmiths Barnard & Sons, is dated to 1879 of the Victorian Age. The decoration is extremely refined and sophisticated with the use of both gilt and copper. Fully marked with five stamps on the neck and in the bottom. Weight: 540 gr. H. 25,5 cm.
