English School, c. 1875. A delighful Victorian portrait of four beloved pets. The watercolour on card portrait depicts 3 dogs and a parrot in an interior setting. Johann Daniel Beyer (French, active 1820-1840). Watercolour portrait of Anna Geither wearing a blue dress with imbecile sleeves, white lace collar tied with a black bow, sash with a gold buckle, and a gold cross on a black ribbon. Signed and dated to the obverse, ”1837 Beyer”. Gilt-metal mount. The reverse also inscribed with the sitter’s name. Oval, 70 mm high (2 ¾ inches). Good condition.

The watercolour portrait depicts a little boy with fair curling hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue suit with large white frilled collars, in his left hand, a top hat, beyond a landscape. Verre eglomise slip within turned and ebonized frame. Signed twice on the frame to the reverse, “Buxton Pinxt.” Oval, 7 cms. X 5 cms. (2 ½ inches X 2 inches). Miniature very good condition. Frame good condition.
