A very rare and unusual miniature, witch is attributed to Friedrich Ludwig Vieth von Goldenau (German), c. 1800. The water color on ivory portrait depicts a miniature painter, and is very possibly a self-portrait of von Goldenau. The artist, with brown hair and brown eyes, is wearing a bright yellow waist-coat, white chemise, and a loosely tied blue craval. A portrait of a beautiful little girl with fair hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue, smocked dress with blue headband and holding a stuffed animal. Signed in pencil to reverse, “F Boyd Walters RMS”. Oval, 7 ½ cms. diameter (2 ¾ inches). With rectangular frame, 12 cms. X 10 cms. (5 inches X 4 inches).
The Canadian miniaturist, Frederick Boyd Walters was a member of the Royal Miniature Society, London.
