Richard Cosway, c. 1795. Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of a gentleman, wearing a double-breasted blue coat with brass button, white waistcoat, and large tied white cravat, his hair powdered. Gold frame. The reverse glazed to reveal gold monogram, "JAP", on painted dark hair. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 cms (3 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Fabulous miniature!

Watercolour on ivory. Lovely little portrait of a midshipman, about 12 years of age, wearing a bright blue coat and white ruffled collar, his sailing ship in the distance, Ebonized frame with brass ship. Oval, 6 cms. X 5 cms. (2 1/2 inches X 1 3/4 inches).

Portrait of Reverend Lewis. Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of Reverend Lewis with auburn hair and brown eyes, seated on a red upholstered chair and wearing a black coat, white chemise, stock and tie. Inscribed to reverse, “The Rev. D Lewis/W J Newton Pinxit 1821”. The reverse of the frame also heavily inscribed, Ebonized frame. Rectangular, 8 1/2 cms. X 7 cms (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches).
