French School, c. 1780 Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of a gentleman in profile, his powered wig, en queue, tied with a black ribbon. He is wearing a dark coat, white shirt jabot, and tie. Stained fruitwood frame with brass slip. Circular, 6 cms. diameter (2 1/2 inches).

She wears a pink gown and pendant around her neck on a black cord. Brass case. Oval, 48 mms. X 36 mms. (2 inches X 1 3/4 inches).

Charles Guillaume Alexandre Bougeois (1759-1832) Double sided, watercolour on ivory portrait miniatures, c. 1790. This Neo-classical, double-sided miniature contains portraits depicting 2 women, undoubtedly sisters. Gold mount. Oval. 3.8 cms. (1/2 inche diameter). The condition or these two miniatures is superb. Portrait miniatures by Bougeois are represented in the collection of the Louvre. Bougeois is considered to be one of the best French miniaturists of all time.
