English School, c. 1875. A delighful Victorian portrait of four beloved pets. The watercolour on card portrait depicts 3 dogs and a parrot in an interior setting. The parrot is seated on the floor cloth eating seeds and fruit, while a King Charles Spaniel with a blue collar, seated on a foot stool, looks on. The spaniel is framed by two other large dogs. Watercolor portraits of sisters by the artist, H F Cunningham (fl. 1846-1849). The portrait of the two young ladies, probably sisters, depicts one seated and wearing a white dress, the other standing, and dressed in blue. Behind is a classical column and a landscape. Solomon Polack, c. 1795. Portrait of a young gentleman wearing a blue coat with black collar, white waistcoat, frilled chemise and cravat. Gilt mounted rectangular papier mache frame. Oval miniature, 6 cms. diameter (2 1/3 inches). Rectangular frame, 12 1/2 cms. X 10 cms. (5 inches X 4 inches). Solomon Polack was born in the Hague, in 1757. He worked in England and Dublin, probably before 1790. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1790-1835. Polack died the 30 August, 1839. Min ...click for details
