Portrait of a young officer by the Irish miniaturist Frederick Buck. The watercolour on ivory miniature depicts the officer in a bright red coatee with green facings, an epaulette, white shoulder belt, and brass belt plate. Brass frame, the reverse with woven hair back behind gold initials, "R * C". Oval, 6 1/2 cms. X 5 cms. (3 inches X 2 1/4 inches). Good condition. The 1/2 length portrait depicts a young child with auburn hair and brown eyes in 3/4 pose, wearing a white dress with bright blue sash, and a hat with matching blue feathers. Cream silk backing to the reverse. Gold case. Oval, 4 1/2 cms. X 4 cms. (1 3/4 inches X 1 1/2 inches). Very good condition.

The portrait of the two young ladies, probably sisters, depicts one seated and wearing a white dress, the other standing, and dressed in blue. Behind is a classical column and a landscape. Continental School. Early 19th Century watercolor on ivory portrait of an officer. The officer, depicted in 1/2 pose, is depicted wear a blue coatee with red facings, silver epaulettes and aiguillete, white shoulder belt with silver belt plate, chemise and black stock. Beneath his right arm he carries a silver helmet decorated with a black feather. Gilt brass frame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 1/2 cms. (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Excellent condition.

A very rare and unusual miniature, witch is attributed to Friedrich Ludwig Vieth von Goldenau (German), c. 1800. The water color on ivory portrait depicts a miniature painter, and is very possibly a self-portrait of von Goldenau.
