| Kate Salaman, c. 1840. A watercolour on ivory portrait of a young man with auburn hair and hazel eyes, wearing spectacles. He is dressed in a white shirt, dark cravat, and dark coat. Ornate hair reverse. Gilt brass and blue enamel frame. Oval, 5 cms. X 4 cms. (2 inches x 1 ½ inches). Miss Kate Salaman flourished between 1834 – 1856. Born in London, she exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, and the Society of British Artist. Salaman is listed in both Foskett and Blattel. | ||||||
