Burl wood is especially favored by Tibetans for their tsampa bowls. This one is especially well-figured. It is especially difficult to assign a date to an items whose form has been so consistent for generations. We've dated this to "pre 1900" but it is likely very much older. 10-1/2 inches in diameter and 7-1/2 inches in height. Very good condition for a burl bowl this size. There is one very old chip in the rim of the top and another on the inside of the top. The wood of the bottom is in excellent condition. The wood finish is dirty in places and obscures some of the patterning of the wood but the overall effect is stunning. |
