Formerly extremely common in Nepal, these red glass beads were worn by women after they were married. Clearly an imitation of the infinitely more expensive red coral, they are sometimes referred to as "Sherpa coral" though we prefer the term "red mala".
New versions of these beads have recently come on the market, but they are much more consistent in both size and color. This string of beads is 29" long and contains 58 beads, each roughly 1/2" in length. |
