Often called "chung dzi" beads to distinguish them from the much more expensive dzi beads with eyes, this is a collection of 42 beads gathered in Tibet and Nepal. Sometimes found by farmers cultivating their soil and sometimes found at ancient grave sites these beads represent a collection of naturally lined and otherwise decorated agates at least 1500 years of age. This string which contains 42 beads was collected in Kathmandu, Nepal, one of the principle trade centers for ancient beads. The strand measures eighteen inches. All 42 beads are pictured in the first four photos . Beginning at lower right follow sequentially in a clockwise direction and each grouping represents successive beads on the strand until you come to the last image, which shows the entire strand. |
