Nagaland lies on the border of India and Burma and until recently was inhabited by clans of headhunters who had a very lively and refined material culture. Visit the homepage of Himalayan Antiques to see many other items from Nagaland. The necklace pictured here is from the Ao Naga and is made up of glass beads in imitation of carnelian and brass trumpets or bells. The string is new but the components are all old. Some of the brass pieces are very old and worn almost through. The necklace measures 25" in length. |
