Five finely carved large pieces and four smaller squares joined by a network of small bone pieces, all held together on a leather band. Depicting different deities, guardians and dancing figures. The five larger pieces and the two central squares are estimated 17th to 18th century; the two other squares are newer pieces. 13th-14th Century, 15 1/4" (38.5 cm.) wide, 7" (18 cm.) high, 1" deep. One of a series of panels from a temple door, carved in deep relief, the central Bodhisattva figure gilded and the surrounding foliate carving with traces of the original green and red paint. Two mythical birds sit on the back of his throne. See similar panel offered at Sotheby's in March 2001.

This unusual cover was once painted on both sides; the top still shows traces of the sacred symbols, birds and foliage that made up the design. The reverse is painted gold on red showing scenes of religious debate and meditation in a mountain landscape with deer, swirling clouds and dragons. One end of the cover is carved with a scroll design. 27 1/2" (70 cm.) by 10 3/4" (27 cm.)

23 antique bells on a hand made chain -- all collected by a Himalayan shaman to wear in a dance to awaken the gods. There are old temple bells, bells for yak and sheep, and bells from the old Indian trains. The length of chain is 36" (92 cm.) while the bells range from 1" to 2" in diameter. Cast in bronze by the lost wax method, ankhoras are used everyday in Nepal for cooking, drinking and cleaning; the more ornate ones like this one are also used in religious ceremonies. Designed for pouring water, the balance is perfect. The narrow neck fits the hand and the wide lip guides the water in an even stream. 7" (17 cm.) high, 5" (13 cm.) diameter.

Symbolizing the union of compassion and wisdom, male and female, the two paths to enlightenment. With a well worn brass 5 pronged dorje top showing the face of Prajnaparamita, a sacred mantra in the leaves of the lotus around the stem and a ring of dorjes around the bottom. Inside the bell is the mantra "Om Ah Hum"; the clapper shows a lot of wear. The matching dorje is also brass. Height: 7" (17 cm.), Length of dorje: 4" (10 cm.)

Nepal, 18th or 19th century. An openwork copper crown with the five Dhayani Buddhas in copper gilt repoussee and copper medallions showing various sacred Buddhist symbols. The top is crowned with a dorje; the pieces that hang down over the ears are attached with copper wire (visible in photo #6). 13" (33 cm.) top to bottom, 8 1/2" (21 cm.) diameter.
