This wonderful bronze bell is from the Khmer culture of Southeast Asia (circa 12th century AD). Bells such as these were used in Buddhist rituals. This particular piece has has its handle reattached - hence the low price for this genuine antiquity. It measures 18 cm tall. The bell portion is 8.2 cm in diameter. There is no clapper.

This marvelous piece of ancient pottery is an offering vessel, sometimes referred to as a "spirit jar", from roughly the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD) of Classic Imperial China. These intriguing vessels first appeared to Western collectors around the turn of the century and were quite a delightful find. Appearing in the ruins of a long forgotten monastery near Kunming, hundreds of these jars were discovered in many sites in and around Yunnan. This particular piece is a very unique, stone prayer tablet. It is difficult to date but stylistically could be as early as the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD). These tablets were often found in conjunction with the ceramic offering vessels from Yunnan. The tablets would accompany the offering vessels and would sometimes comprise an enclosure for the offering vessels. (See trocadero item number 797164 for an example of the offering vessel).
