Priceless Past

$89

In the mid 15th C a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the “Dragon’s Embrace.” Around 1994 local fishermen began finding pottery in their nets. This is a beautiful little round porcelain box from the now famous Hoi An shipwreck. This one is roughly 6.3 cm in diameter. It has little sea creatures still stuck to the underside - visible in the last enlargement.

Another one gone!

This is a great, round handle sword dating to the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 BC) of ancient China. Not only is this sword in fantastic condition with no repairs or significant damage but it has one of the most unique patinas I have ever seen. There is a rainbow of color in the remnants of wood fibers from the scabbard on the blade. The pictures do not do it justice. You can also see in the final enlargement (35x magnification) that there are some pristine botryoidal malachite crystals in ...click for details

Here is a great little decorated Khmer or Champa pottery pipe. This particular piece is heavily decorated with some minor damage in the form of chips to the rims and body. It measures almost 6cm in length. I currently have three of these that were all recovered by divers from the red river delta, which accounts for their pristine condition.

sale $99

This is a very large, very attractive dragon and lotus vase with a 6 character Wanli mark on the base. The mark would suggest a manufacture period of 1573-1619 in the Ming Dynasty but I am fairly certain this is a modern replica. Nonetheless it is a beautiful piece and would be a compliment to any decor. It measures roughly 45 cm in height. It is covered extensively with floral patterns and a total of five elegant dragons.
