Dian Culture Trident Guard Bronze Sword
This is a unique copper alloy sword from ancient southeast Asia. It is definitely a minority culture piece and is likely from the Dian culture. It dates to the Warring States period circa 500 BCE and has a style often found in the area of modern Sichuan province. The sword has a prominent midrib and decorated guard area. There are also a series of lines and dots that decorate the hilt. Overall the piece is solid and stable though there are some chips to the blade edges and minor wear due to age. This piece was part of the collection of the late John Piscopo (estate auction #3092) and was purchased by him from Allens Antiques in 2001. It weighs in at a very hefty 425 grams and is roughly 36 cm in length. This is a rare type that won't be available for long.
