Ancient Bronze Axe Head Amlash or Luristan
This is a wonderful example of a small, ancient bronze axe from Northern Iran ca 1200 BC. Similar examples are attributed to either the Amlash or Luristan cultures. This particular example has three raised rings on the outside of the socket. On the upper surface behind the vertical blade edge there is a deep recession not often seen on these types of axe heads. This specimen weighs 572 grams. It is solid and stable with no signs of repair or restoration. It measures just over 12 cm down its longest axis. It has a deep, reddish brown patina with light sand/surface encrustations.
