Dating to the early twentieth century, around 1900 / 1910, this charming Black Forest automated toy is of a bear answering the telephone.
The cord appears to be the original and when pulled moves the bear's arm holding the receiver up to it's ear.
Very nicely carved with a wonderful rich dark colour and a good glossy patina.
Excellent condition measuring 4 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" wide.

Dating to around 1900, late Victorian or early Edwardian, this English calendar is made from solid polished Oak.
There are four metal knobs each side, used to forward and reverse the internal rollers which in turn would change the day, date and month, in full working order. There is a glass panel to the front of these rollers to keep them protected.
Excellent condition, measuring 5 3/4" tall x 4 1/4" wide x 2 1/2" deep.

A very handsome and most unusual spool box with its castellated form and finished with an alternative themed finish with a riot of floral and foliate decoration with various children playing amongst them.
The top also has a decoupaged panel with Lily of the Valley surrounding the words "Dinna Forget the Giver".
The interior retains all of the dowels to hold the spools.

A really quite stunning and most unusual antique Walnut caddy, a good size for modern usage.
The front panel is beautifully engraved with an acanthus leaf garland and there is additional boxwood string inlay to the back and side panels.

Dating to around 1920, it is most unusual to find a pair of these open barley twist candle sticks in Walnut, they are usually seen in Oak.
These open twists mustn't be mistaken by the more simple tuned type; these are created by two twists surrounding each other carved with some accuracy.
The warm reddish brown colour of the wood is enhanced with the polished brass drip trays to collect any stray molten wax.

I haven't had this form of an antique Mauchline Tartan card case before, I bought item # 30613 together with it and I wander if they were a matching set of "his and hers", clearly this being the ladies with the silver chain enabling it to be carried like a purse or handbag.
Also it has an unusual silver catch keeping it shut tightly when being carried with the chain handle.
