Original incredibly detailed Victorian (c1870) cast iron stand. Dish top with disc of classic woman in center and detail throughout the casting until the edge. Dish top,14 1/2" , is supported by a tripod griffin base and claw feet. Three heads which probably had brass chain connecting to the top as there are small holes, would have been a classic swag. c1870 Desk of walnut with burl walnut decorative veneers. American, Victorian era drop front desk opens to reveal a 4 drawer interior with cubbies. Fine hand cut dovetails with ash secondary wood. Original finish black walnut washstand or commode. White marble top, backsplash & sconces with nice gray striations throughout. Washstand retains original clean finish (c1865) with hand cut dovetail drawer, carved leaf & fruit pulls, racetrack moldings and hardware. Washstand is approx 17" d, 31" w and 29" h (deck), the backsplash is a nice tall 13" so total height is 44". Very nice ebonized arm chair with fine details throughout. Incise carving, nice anglo japanese designs. Pierce carved maple leaf repeating design under the arms. Older upholstery still in good condition. Minor dings to original ebonized finish. Chair is approx 32" h, seat 16"h, chair width approx 25". Even with the springs needing some upkeep this is a very comfortable chair.
Pictured are 2 pieces from this 6 pc set. Walnut construction in as found condition (good), set consists of 2 large arm chairs and 4 side chairs. The arm chairs have the jenny lind woman's head mainly associated with the work of John Jelliff (1813-1893) NJ cabinet maker. The side chairs are matching but never had the woman's head. An exceptional late Victorian era (1880's) etagere. This ebonized etagere is made of cherry and is the height of quality and craftsmanship for the aesthetic era. EXCEPTIONAL Rosewood sewing stand. One of the finest pieces of workmanship we have EVER seen, anywhere. Each basket is tapered with fine rosewood turnings supporting the circular molded rosewood tops. The base of these "baskets" are turned discs of rosewood.
