Authentic Sheep Horn is mounted in silver and has a stepped base. The style of base suggests a 1920s time frame and it is not weighted. The candle cup is removable for cleaning. It measures approximately 10 1/2" tall and 9" wide. Unmarked. The metal is probably a heavy silverplate and there is no wear. Great patina to horn.
Handcarved Black Forest picture frame features an Alpen cottage and tall fir trees on either side. Reverse has a pocket that picture slides into. Has it's glass and an antique postcard sent to Wichita, Kansas in 1909 with canceled 1 cent stamp.
Arts and Crafts sewing chest skillfully engraved overall in pyrography with tall masted sailing ships, love birds, roses, swans & parrots. Prettiest example I've had, it's the color of golden oak wood but lighter weight. Check out the offset legs and the inset tray which is completely detailed around it's edges as well. One scrape to front edge of the box shown in images. 13" wide by 9" and 6" tall.
Tortoise shell coin box or purse is inlaid with sterling silver. This Victorian era item bears a beautifully hand engraved "B" initial. Either side is shell and the frame is brass. The lining is red fabric. Center is a hidden compartment. Shuts with a "snap". 2 7/8" x 2 1/4". Circa 1850s
Hand-carved Chinese Tortoise Shell picture frame dated 1911. The fine fretwork and pierced work here is that of a master. Please see the detailed crown, the entire surface of the dragon is detailed right down to the scales. At about 6" x 4" its easily one of the largest we've seen; pictured against a light background to highlight the exuberant figuring. This fine shell momento has an easel type stand at the reverse. Fine old hand-carved wooden box from the Black Forest. This has a flip up lid and opens to swing away hinged stacks for organizing your notions or jewelry. Small loss, measures 11 1/2" wide x 8" tall x 6 1/2" deep. Stands on four bun feet. Interior has silk lining to most portions. The back side is entirely carved. No key. Was $395.
Tactile shagreen eyeglass holder from China is edged in copper which has totally verdigreed with time. A cord runs through which acts to also hang on a pendant or belt if you wish. Skins are in excellent undamaged condition. Inside lined with wood. An interesting object to display. My modern reading glasses fit in just fine. 8" x 3 1/4" These Chinese shagreens were made of ray or shark.
Birmingham hallmarked page turner has a repoussed silver handle with bas relief of the Northwind. The beautiful patinated authentic ivory implement is in very good condition with a shallow dimple to one side. 12" long.
