Authentic Sheep Horn is mounted in silver and has a stepped base. The style of base suggests a 1920s time frame and it is not weighted. The candle cup is removable for cleaning. It measures approximately 10 1/2" tall and 9" wide. Unmarked. The metal is probably a heavy silverplate and there is no wear. Great patina to horn.
Tortoise shell coin box or purse is inlaid with sterling silver. This Victorian era item bears a beautifully hand engraved "B" initial. Either side is shell and the frame is brass. The lining is red fabric. Center is a hidden compartment. Shuts with a "snap". 2 7/8" x 2 1/4". Circa 1850s
Hand-carved Chinese Tortoise Shell picture frame dated 1911. The fine fretwork and pierced work here is that of a master. Please see the detailed crown, the entire surface of the dragon is detailed right down to the scales. At about 6" x 4" its easily one of the largest we've seen; pictured against a light background to highlight the exuberant figuring. This fine shell momento has an easel type stand at the reverse.
