"Birds Eye" is the name of this one of a kind piece made by Henry Rosetta of Santo Domingo Pueblo. The silver element is tufa cast. These castings are hand-carved out of a type of sandstone, then molten silver is poured into the mold. Once the silver has cooled, the tufa is broken away never to be used again. This piece has the characteristic pebbly ground and a shadowbox oxidized backing. Looks fantastic on the arm, solid but not clunky. This exceptional design employs use of rounded inlay not flat as you often see in these early Zuni pieces. This brooch is unmarked sterling silver. Knifewing has a 1 3/4" Wingspan and is 1 5/8" tall. This necklace is in fine condition, and strung on wheat colored cording for comfort and a natural look.
