The cross has a miniscule window with glass cover, when you peer inside you can see the fine table-worked human hair from the deceased loved one which has been carefully preserved. Gold bale, gold trim to window and gold mounting to the back of the cross itself. Fine quality hand-carved Victorian ivory cross with bale strung on hand-carved ivory beads necklace with carved barrel screw type clasp. Best condition, good patina. Cross length 2 1/8" includes ivory bale, width is 1" and thickness is 1/4", bead necklace measures 34" end to end and can be worn doubled or not. (17" end to end if doubled in other words). No loss!

Whitby jet beads (lignite) are graduated and hand-carved and set with French jet (glass)bead spacers and original tongue type clasp also of French jet. It's been said that as early as 1825 the first jet carving business was established in Yorkshire area of England and of course today production still flourishes. Largest bead measures 3/4" diameter down to about 3/8". The strand measures 28" end to end with minor loss.

Early to mid-Victorian mourning festoon necklace of carved Whitby jet. This ornately designed bib fits close to the collar bone with the top strand running about 15". The three rows of carved beads are suspended by hand-carved and polished terminals and a row of large round beads is at the back to ensure comfortable wearing. Fabulous color in this Art Deco era necklace of large semi-opaque beads. These have lovely visible swirling within deep black cherry color. The necklace is nearly 32" long and has a hidden clasp carved into the top central beads. Size range is 1" down to 1/2" beads with no damage and securely strung on ecru cord. Victorian era guard chain of genuine Whitby Jet faceted beads in a length you'll rarely find and circa 1880. These types of chains were designed to place around the neck to hold the muff by a ring when not in use. The beads are all identical in size and shape, that is as nearly as hand-faceting will allow. Nice chunky central bead measures 1" and graduate down nicely to 1/4". The 19" necklace is strung on gold-filled chain you will probably never need to restring. Their symmetry is just slightly off at the closure, (a bead or two more on one side than the other), but the wearer is the only one who will be able to detect this.
