| Beautiful and Large, old silver Pawn brooch is Navajo made and typical of tourist pieces produced for the trading posts that cropped up along Route 66 from the turn of the century up to the 40s. Its rare to find a piece actually marked "coin silver" but this one is. "Coin silver" is 90 percent pure silver and 10% alloy and is called coin because Native American jewelry makers melted down pre 1900 American and Mexican coins before they were able to obtain commercially made ingots and sheet silver in order to make jewelry. This is therefore, a very early example of the tourist jewelry of that booming era. This may be a Hachita mine turq or Royston, the colors and matrix are similar. Nice crisp hand tooling includes an arrow head and crossed arrows. This is very good condition, measuring 4" Long! and 1/2" wide. All inquiries are promptly answered. | ||||||
