Hawaiian Koa Wood Perfume Bottle & Holder Pre-Statehood
Beautiful hand-carved exotic wood perfume bottles such as this were a popular take home momento made for tours to the Hawaiian Islands in the early to mid 1900s. This one in popular anthurium pattern comes complete with original bottle and carved wood cap. Koa wood has always had important cultural significance to the Native Hawaiians. Its estimated that 90% of the original forests are now given over to agricultural and other development. These early bottles are very dense and fine grained, nothing like the imported monkey pod items which now fill the tourist traps. This item meausres 4 1/2" x 2 3/4".
