Gold Pique Brooch Victorian Tortoise Shell Inlaid

Tortoise shell was a popular material for jewelry during the Victorian era of 1837-1900. Its got thermplastic properties ie: melts when heated, can be molded into shapes and therefore can be inlaid quite nicely. These "pique" pins are getting harder to find and ours features a leaf and berry design thats pure karat gold. The border is complete with a Greek Key pattern. No loss to the inlay here and has the old style clasp, its original to the pin. Its shown in a window pane so you can see the lovely graining in this specimen. Just over 1 1/4" diameter, its a lovely and unusual find.
