A Mezcala stone figure from Pre-Columbian Mexico, circa 300 B.C. – 100 B.C. This example measures 4 1/2” tall by about 2 1/2” wide (excluding the display stand, included), and was finely crafted by the ancient artisan from a very dark green, almost black, hard stone, which appears to have once been a used stone axe (this is typical for Mezcala figures of this type). This zoomorphic form likely represents a Cayman, and was drilled by the ancient artisan for suspension from a necklace, making it a very personal artifact- once worn on the very person of an ancient inhabitant of the region.
