This Large, Blue & White Pottery dish depicts a central medallion of Two Phoenix in a river surrounded by Reeds and Foliage, The border is painted with what I think are Five Lillies between Scales. The reverse has the remains of grit from the Kilm. This dish is quite freely painted, the glaze is crazed and has a dull thud, all a bit crude. This lovely, Deep honey coloured box is lined with Cedar wood a central adjustable division, Two lower compartments with a central mixing bowl. To me these pieces and the epitome of the English passion for tea in the Late 18/19th Century They are extremely useful, infact I have seen a resirgance of their use because of the renewed interest in fine and rare teas. This is a nice example, complete with it's burner. There is a most ameture repair to the handle where it joins to the pot. I can get a quote for a professional repair but it is still quite usable.
