This rare bowl is in the "Chinese imari pavillion" pattern , Originally painted in underglaze blue, iron red and gilding which only remains in ghostly form. Fortunatly the blue remains in all its glory because it was under the glaze. The decorations depicts a pavillion and terrace bamboo fence, a low table festoomed with flowers and draped with curtains. This bowl (16.5cm) has a deep rounded side with a slightly flaring rim. The exterior is decorated tiers of interlocking Lotus panels containing alternating "Lingzhi" Fungus stems and Fruiting Peach sprays there is also one of these on the inside. This attractive pair have a flanged flaring stem, raised on a domed stand with a short cylindrical base. This is an extremely rare piece from the Tek Sing Cargo. It is beautifully moulded, the body is unglazed with a blue glazed bib on the front. He is holding a pair of straps in each hand, his head is shaved with two plates either side. The actual purpose of these little characters has baffled the experts, perhaps they were for good luck. This attractive little piece was to be used for sake of wine. It is decorated with flowers and blossom.
