These sets are quite rare. There were only 168 sets in the whole Nanking Cargo. This "Large set" is painted with a large blossoming Peony and aweeping Willow growing from Rockwork within a fenced terrace with swaskita deccoration. The swastika deccoration is believed to be a Buddist symbol for the heart of Budda. In China it is used as s synonym for "wan" which means Ten Thousand, it is seen as a symbol of endless longevity. This Fabulous Tureen is in underglazed blue and white of compressed oval quatrefoil shape with square arched handles. The cover has an attractive finial. The liner has Four pierced holes to allow steam to escape around which is a "Trellis" pattern border. In the centre is a small house on a rocky island, covered with trees. The Tureen and lid are finely painted. There were only One Hundred and Twenty of these lovely Tureens in teh Diana Cargo and quite a number were damaged. ...click for details

This attractive Celadon Jarlet has two looped handles through which silk cords were put for carrying. Flowers are depicted around the shoulder and there is also a leaf pattern around the base. It is quite heavily potted and glazed in the lovely Greenish Celadon colour, Towards the base is underglazed as you can see from the pictures. There is crazing to the glaze, the condition is good.
