I RECENTLY RE-PURCHASED THIS WONDERFUL AND VERY RARE ITEM. This bowl represents a scarce early type known as Chuska, a precursor to the ever popular Chaco styles. The interior of the bowl is slipped in white with a swirling pattern painted in black. The design is excellent and not often found as well executed in early pieces. The exterior is not slipped. Mint measuring 10 x 5 without any cracks, chips or restoration. A gem! A wonderful Reserve black and white bird pitcher with excellent white slip, superb black paint and a little curly tail. The most prominent feature is the wide band handle with a truly stunning solid image of a black lizard. In addition the painted design has been implemented so as to clearly define the wings and breast. Virtually all prehistoric Native American effigy pieces are made to be canteens; a pitcher like this is highly unusual. This pitcher was unearthed in 1983 on the Hudson ranch which is just south of Reserve New Mexico. Completely intact measuring 8.5 x 6.5 x 7.8, no restoration of any kind. This wonderful bowl is regarded as the finest example of this rare polychrome type known as Winslow, which takes its name from the town where the type is found, Winslow, AZ. The dominating characteristic is dark black (in this case glazed) and white paint on a cream to creamy orange background. The design appears to be four arrows in plain fields pointing to the middle, though it is often referred to as the ice cream bow! Reassembled from two pieces, no addition of plaster or paint. This type is virtually never seen, in any condition, within the collecting community.
Measures 9 x 3.3". A RELEASE AND DISCLOSURE, WITH PICTURE, IS PROVIDED STATING THE CONDITION, APPROXIMATE AGE AND THAT POSSESSING IT IS NOT IN VIOLATION OF ANY FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL LAWS.
