Fine Thai, velvet lined, lacquerware jewelry box. The process is centuries old and includes a minimum of seven coats of Asian lacquer in thickness over a bamboo base. Each layer is hand smoothed with a water and abrasive process to a fine gem finish. The decorative gold leaf is then inlaid by the artist and clear coated and water smoothed over again, to give you a glass like finish that at one time was only available to royalty.
