The beauty with which traditional Japanese craftsmen imbued even everyday utilitarian objects is exemplified by this copper hot water bottle dating from the late 19th to early 20th century with its beautiful and delicate embossed floral decoration. The bottle opens with a threaded screw type cap, used in Japan since at least the mid-1800s, while the handle is attached to traditional pierced bosses. A VERY RARE SONG DYNASTY BLUE-GREEN CELADON PORCELAIN VASE (A.D. 960-1279) of classical baluster form on a high foot, with molded relief, rather than incised, decoration on the body, and a trumpet-shaped neck. Similar wares of the later Yuan period, particularly those intended for export, tend towards thickness. Between A.D. 1100 and 1150 Koryo dynasty potters excelled in plain, undecorated celadons. As supplies of the precious zitan (purple sandalwood) dwindled, small items such as this handled wine cup came to be treasured in the later Ching Dynasty.
