A delightful uninscribed Chinese seal chop decorated with rats feasting at clusters of grapes. The subject matter seems more typical of Japanese netsuke, but this is a soapstone carving in a color called “chicken blood stone” which is highly prized by the Chinese. The naturally shaped, narrow stone is approx. 7 cm (2-3/4”) long on one side, the narrow side measured from the flattened bottom reserved for the seal chop varying from 13 cm to 18 cm wide.
