| Edo Period. Utagawa Toyokuni (1769-1825) (also, Toyokuni I). A framed and glazed triptych of ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints depicting a continuous indoor/outdoor scene containing four figures, most likely Kabuki actors probably representing geisha. The central standing figure notices she is being spied upon by two figures crouching behind a bamboo fence while opening an interior sliding panel to a room on the right wherein is seated a pensive figure who is obviously pondering some other matter. Good impressions with some fading and slight buckling of the paper at the edges. Not examined out of frame but no visible tears or holes and professionally framed in the late 20th Century. The frame molding is black, gold and muted red and the neatly cut double mat is color coordinated with the prints. An older purchase label has been affixed to the back of the newer frame reading AN ORIGINAL PRINT / GUARANTEE / BY SAKAI CO. LTD. / EST. 1874 / YOKOHAMA JAPAN. Frame Dimensions: 20 high x 34-1/2 wide; dimensions of opening: 14 high x 29 wide. Shipping charges apply. Because of weight and size, this item is recommended only for purchase or delivery within the continental U.S.A. or customer pickup in San Francisco, California. | ||
