Small statue of Saint Roch or Rock, patron of those with cancer, lifting his tunicle and pointing to his leg. This Latin American or Spanish Santo sports long hair and wears a full cope, probably late 18th century or early 19th. There are traces of polychrome. Pair of French late 19th century gilt metal covers for candlesticks or torches carried by acolytes in a religious procession. The covers are very architectural with gothic arched windows, trefoils, crenellations and surmounted by a cross. Both are identical except for a small bottom piece on one which raises it 1 inch to 12 inches. The bases of both are 2.5" by 2.5"
Beautiful parian statue of a long-haired and bearded Saint John the Baptist, barefoot and wearing a short tunic of animal skin. A scallop shell for baptising hangs at his hip from a leather strap which crosses his chest. Condition is good except for a fine crack in the hair on his left shoulder. Stylized figural metal incense boat or lidded container for incense in the shape of a swan, used in Catholic liturgy to hold the incense before it is burnt in a thurible or censer. Head, neck and feathers of swan are nicely detailed. Patina of the metal is an aged bronze look, although I am not certain is this is white metal, bronze or a dirty pewter. Lovely and delicate antique scapular made of ivory colored satin with crocheted edges. The letters J for Jesus and M for Mary surrounded by roses are hand-painted on each square medallion. The squares are backed with the traditional dark brown cloth. Each medallion has a cover or purse with a button made of the same ivory satin with crocheted edges. Fine silver plated French benitier or holy water font in the shape of a fleur de lys which is decorated with acanthus leaves and the letters ND (Notre Dame for Our Lady, the Virgin Mary) surmounted by a crown. The inside of the bowl of the font is copper or brass or gilt metal. The font would contain holy water with which the faithful would bless themselves as a reminder of their baptism and participation in the life of the cross and holy Trinity. Nicely carved limestone octagonal finial in 2 sections. The top half (an octahedron?) has a hole which fits nicely over the spike extending from the bottom octagonal plinth. French figure of the Virgin Mary with her Immaculate Heart exposed on her breast. The carved and ebonized wood statue has a beautifully draped veil, vestment and sash.
