| Framed oil on canvas stretched on board signed by Louis Abel-Truchet (1857-1918) with a typed note on the back which gives a brief biography of the artist: Pupil of Jules Lefebrve and Benjamin Constant. He first exhibited in 1891 and from then his work appeared in many exhibitions in France and in many international exhibitions. He was a founder-member and treasurer of the Salon d'Automne and held official positions in many national societies. He was one of the earliest artists to adopt the techniques of the Impressionists and his reputation grew quickly. In 1914, aged 57, he volunteered for the army and was largely responsible for the organisation of a camouflage section for the French government. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour, but was killed in action in 1918. He was much respected in France as a painter of landscapes and portraits and at the 1919 Exhibition of paintings of artists who gave their lives for France during the Great War, his group of paintings earned much ...
