| A plaster statue of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus has been covered with a mother-of-pearl-like plastic coating and ornamented with small jewels at her feet and in her crown. In her right hand she bears a metal flower on a stem with many leaves almost like a scepter. The gem at the top of the flower is missing. The base is decorated with courses of pearls, paper and gems. Condition is good although there is damage to the coating and the plaster is showing through on the back of the Virgin's head, the side of the Child's head and the back of the base. Luckily the losses are all in the back. The figures stand in a glass box which has been ornamented with gold paper and on a wooden base which has been gessoed and gilded. There is a metal plaque on the front with the inscription: A Conception of our Lady of Ars by Guy Manning. At the base of the figure is the artist's signature and the date, 1948. Height of figure with base is 11". Box and base are 14" high by 7" square. | ||
