| Nicely carved and stained wood figure of a hunter in late medieval rich hunting clothes and hat with a horn on his belt caressing a deer or stag. Probably early 20th century. Many medieval legends tell of dissolute hunters encountering stags with crucifixes between their horns and after a conversion of life, living as hermits or bishops and then saints. Some possibilities are Saint Hubert of Liege AD 727, Saint Julian the Hospitator AD 313 and Saint Eustace Martyr AD 118 Condition is good with the following losses: a piece of his hat, the stag's antlers, and a crack in the base. Height is 11.5" Base is 4" wide and 5" deep. | ||
