Modernist Pottery Vase, Klopfer, Germany
Wonderful, mid century vase by Lu Klopfer. This pattern with it's vibrant color palette is probably his best known and was done in many sizes and shapes. Reminiscent of Guido Gambone, he may very likely have been influenced by him. The vase stands 9 1/2 inches tall and is in excellent condition.(one glaze pop incurred during production)

Ludwig Klopfer (1924-1977) produced much of his work for the Kunsttöpferei Johann Lipp in Mering,Germany. He was the grandson of Johann Lipp, who founded the pottery in the middle of the 19th century. In the 1940s, Klopfer became the art director and the modern shapes and new glaze-techniques of the 50s, 60s and 70s are the result of his creative work. His work is often unsigned, and he used a series of numbers and sometimes letters to mark them.

For a remarkably different example of his work, see item number 2038.
