Mid Century Modern Ceramic Vase, Lu Klopfer, Germany
This mid century ceramic vase is by Lu Klopfer, Germany. Ludwig Klopfer (1924-1977) produced much of his work for the Kunsttöpferei Johann Lipp in Mering,Germany. He was the grandson of Johann Lipp, who founded the pottery in the middle of the 19th century. In the 1940s, Klopfer became the art director and the modern shapes and new glaze-techniques of the 50s, 60s and 70s are the result of his creative work. His work is often unsigned, and he used a series of numbers and sometimes letters to mark them. This tall (11 1/2")piece has an incised primitive design and is glazed in hues of blues and purples. It is stylistically similar to another Klopfer piece listed (#1988)and markedly different from this Bauhaus influenced piece (#2038).
