These large Southern coin silver chop tongs are extremely rare. Made by Joseph M. Freeman (1806-1882, Norfolk, Virginia) circa 1840, they measure 11-1/4 inches in length and weigh a hefty 9 troy ounces. They are decorated with a gorgeous period script monogram EML. Functional yet very scarce, these are only the second Southern tongs we've seen.

This wonderful coin silver agricultural premium cup was a prize given by the Highland County (Ohio) Agricultural Society, as per the engraving in beautiful period script. County fairs were known to give prizes of silver cups to the winners of various classes in the 1850s. The cup bears the mark of Edward and David Kinsey, who worked in partnership between 1844 and 1861 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This stylish three-piece coin silver butter dish was made circa 1865 by Ball Black & Company, New York City. It is etched and engraved with cat tails and is stamped with the maker's mark and English Sterling, but it is definitely coin. Dimensions of this handsome dish are 7 inches in height to the top of the finial and 6-3/4 inches in diameter. Gorham made this coin silver porringer circa 1855-1865. Beside the Gorham mark, it is stamped COIN. Dimensions: 6-1/4 inches in length including the handle, 4-1/2 inch bowl, and 1-5/8 inches high. Weight is 4.63 troy ounces. The porringer has later engraving on the bottom, which might make it more interesting to some---"John Adams Loud III From Great uncle Richard Pigeon Christmas 1947". All in all, a very nice coin silver porringer. These always make a great baby dish.
