This appealing early twentieth century oil on canvas depiction of a horse and four fox hounds in a landscape is signed L. Parata by the artist lower left. The artist is a very skillful animal painter and has not included the huntsman, instead choosing to concentrate on the horse and the hounds and their position in the clearing. Dimensions: 29-3/4 x 22 inches, sight size; 30-3/4 x 22-1/2 inches in nice gilded frame. This is a nice and reasonably priced piece of sporting art.

This appealing stylized portrait of a circus clown is oil on board, mixed with newspaper and either gouache or watercolor. Dimensions are 10 x 8 inches, sight size, and 13-3/8 x 11-3/8 inches framed. The painting is signed AS by the artist lower right. Arthur Smith painted for the Federal WPA Program in the 1930s and 1940s and was also an illustrator for The Ring boxing magazine. He died in 1972. This is a great item for a Yankees fan.

The subject is in a landscape with stark trees, water that looks like a lake or a bayou, and a sky that looks as if the rain is coming. The girl's banana curls make her unmistakable. This circa 1840 American School portrait of an attractive family is extremely well done. It is oil on canvas laid down on masonite. Middle class families in the mid-nineteenth century had their portraits painted as yet another way to show that they had arrived socially.
