| These 4 vintage sterling silver mint julep cups will be sold in pairs----2 sets of 2 cups each for $550 a pair. The cups are banded at both top and bottom. Dimensions are 3-3/4 inches in height x 3 inches in diameter at the top x 2-3/8 inches in diameter at the base, slightly wider at the rim as are classic julep cups. They range in weight between 3.67 and 3.99 troy ounces. The julep cup has a great Kentucky association. The popularity of the beaker form in Kentucky, where it is regionally called a julep cup, is partially accounted for as a symbol of a time before the Civil War----a time of romantic gentility, relaxed wealth and graciousness, an era when a man’s breeding was reflected in his manners and hospitality. | ||||||||
