This hand painted Nippon porcelain cobalt blue floral plate is 10" in diameter. There is gold wear around the edge of the plate. I am not sure if it was meant to look like that or not. The hallmark on the revers reflects the country of origin in Chinese characters. This plate is circa 1884-1890. in 1890, 'The Mckinley Tariff Act, was passed. The Declaration of the Country of Origin became necessary for all products coming to U.S. since that time. in 1921 "Nippon" had appeared as part of the back stamp until "Japan" replaced it in 1921. |
